Chairmans Club India

India: The ability to attract international participation has always been a strong feature of the Club and a long list of remarkable leaders from around the world have taken part. Some have been from India but the recent growth of Indian businesses in international markets creates a particular opportunity now to invite selected Indian companies and entrepreneurs to associate more directly with the Club. The aim is to create a better platform for the shared understanding of the exceptional global opportunities which arise when rapidly developing and mature markets bring their different strengths together for mutual advantage.

Next steps: As a first step a special meeting of the Chairmans Club dedicated to India took place in London in the fourth quarter of 2007 at which leading Indian entrepreneurs were invited to experience the Club at first hand. This meeting was the forerunner for subsequent meetings to be held alternatively in London and in India at which both Indian and London based members would participate. The potential which subsequently emerges for cooperation, partnering and investment will determine what happens next. The development of the initiative is being closely coordinated with the CII in India and the Indo-British Partnership.

A Steering Group for the Indian initiative comprises Lord Colin Marshall (Chair of Nomura) Dick Olver (Chair of BAE), David Reid (Chair of Tesco), Mervyn Davies (Chair of Standard Chartered Bank) and Sir Malcolm Williamson (Chair of the CDC) together with the Director and founder of the Club Leslie Dighton.
